     In 1766 Church of Ireland rectors were instructed to compile returns of householders in their parishes showing religious affiliation and number of Catholic clergy in their areas. Not all of the rectors listed individuals by name (some merely compiled statistics), so the returns that list names for County Cork are very incomplete. Below are the parishes (Church of Ireland) for County Cork where the surname "Desmond" occurs. Only heads of households are listed for all of the parishes, but for the Parish of Kilmichael the first number indicates number of Protestants in the household, the second the number of Catholics. The returns for County Cork are very incomplete. There are returns for less than a third of the Church of Ireland parishes. There are no Protestant Desmonds listed in any of the parishes.
